Ranney Middle Schoolers Impress at CJMEA Festival

On April 19, the Ranney Middle School Jazz Band and the Middle School Orchestra participated in the CJMEA Elementary-Middle School Band and Orchestra Festival, held at Neptune Performing Arts Center.

Each ensemble performed two selections - Overture to the Barber of Seville by Rossini, arr. by James "Red" McLeod and Pizzicato Polka by Johann and Josef Strauss by Orchestra, Rumba Latina by Victor Lopez and Four by Miles Davis, arr. by John Berry by Jazz Band.

Both groups received written and audio comments from two distinguished adjudicators - Mr. John Lindner and Mr. Nicholas Santoro. Students had also an opportunity to listen to ensembles representing Hopewell Valley, Westfield, South Brunswick and Middlesex Middle School ensembles.

“Our Ranney ensembles performed wonderfully receiving very positive feedback from the adjudicators and from the audience,” said Performing Arts Department Chair Dr. Dorothy Sobieski.

The Jazz Band was praised for very good tone, good blend, good balance, good interpretation and style and great soloists.

The Orchestra received feedback on beautiful sound, very good blend, very good intonation, articulation and dynamics, and excellent phrasing and balance.

“It was a wonderful day filled with music,” said Dr. Sobieski. “Our Performing Arts students truly represented our school with pride and class!” Click on the link below to view photos taken by Dr. Sobieski.
