Campaign to Enhance the Aquatics Center
The Gerhard Pavilion for Athletics aids in fostering a positive Ranney experience as it provides a place for scholar-athletes to engage in physical fitness activities that build character and promote a healthy lifestyle.
A cornerstone of the athletic program are swimming lessons in the building’s Aquatics Center, which have taught children ages three and up for over 36 years. To many, Ranney’s swimming pool is the place where the journey to success begins. With guidance from the school’s beloved Aquatics Director of 31 years and Panther Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Emmett Walling, countless children have successfully developed coordination, strength and confidence while in the Center.
As a result of these acquired skills, Ranney’s scholar-athletes slowly mature into champions. This past winter alone marked 13 new school records from Ranney’s Middle School and varsity swim teams combined, as well as the Middle School teams’ second consecutive Ranney Swim Invite Championship and perfect season. “The Ranney aquatics program has come a long way since 1979 and improvements to our facility are now needed,” said Coach Walling.
To provide the same wonderful opportunity to succeed for future generations of scholar-athletes to come, Ranney began a campaign aimed at enhancing its Aquatics Center in the winter of 2011. A key component of the $125,000 project includes the installation of six new state-of-the-art swim blocks and a new bulkhead scheduled to be installed later this year.
New swim blocks not only promise novice and competitive swimmers the highest quality equipment possible, but also increase safety and improve overall performance. Meanwhile, replacing the Center’s bulkhead provides both a firm base for the swim blocks and secures the pool’s length to make it suitable for competitions.
Close to reaching the halfway fundraising mark, Ranney gets one stroke closer to meeting its $125,000 goal each and every day. Installation of the swim blocks and bulkhead are scheduled to take place this fall, and will be available to scholar-athletes starting in October.
