MS Girls Basketball Team Earns 2nd CJAL Title in Two Years

The Middle School girls’ basketball team faced the Gators of Rumson Country Day School (RCDS) during a CJAL Championship game on February 16, 2012, earning their second consecutive CJAL title.

Hoping to reclaim last year’s title, which Ranney brilliantly secured over Calvary Academy during a championship game on February 25, 2011, the girls once again took to their home court ready to play on Thursday afternoon. In what proved the team’s most exciting game of the season, the score was nearly tied at the end of each quarter. Down by two with 1.5 seconds left to play, the Lady Panthers’ lead scorer Erin Kennedy ’16 sent the game into overtime as she went 2-2 from the free-throw line. Overall, Erin secured 12 points, four assists and nine steals throughout the contest.

Smoothly running the point despite extended pressure from RCDS was Arianna Palmeri ’16, who maintained composure as she provided eight assists, and went 80 percent from the foul line. Meanwhile, Mollie Tobin ’16, Skylar Bradley ’16 and Elizabeth Paasche ’16 dominated the boards on defense, eliminating any possibility that their opponent would convert an easy basket. Key points came from Arianna with six and Skylar with three. In the end, the girls' hard work paid off as they worked together to earn their team's second straight CJAL championship and a 22-20 victory over RCDS.

The girls should be proud as they have given many supportive fans within the Ranney community something to cheer about!
