My College Journey, by Michelle Krameisen ‘16 – Part 2

April 2015

It is now spring of my junior year and the college process is well under way. During the past six months, I received my college counselor assignment, visited additional universities and held multiple meetings regarding which schools I am going to apply to in the fall of my senior year. While the list is not set in stone—there is still time to decide where I might fit in best—I do have a great sense of my plan forward.

As I finish off my standardized testing and prepare for the upcoming Advanced Placement (AP) exams upcoming in May, it is apparent how imperative the fourth quarter of my junior year truly is. My grades in this quarter and for my junior year as a whole are essentially the most important factor in my college applications. While the thought of college is very exciting, academics and what I continue to do outside the classroom are still my top priorities.

In January, I attended College Night on Ranney’s campus. The event featured college admission representatives from Villanova University, Fordham University and the University of Delaware. My classmates and I were able to ask questions and learn about the institutions’ thought processes as they receive our applications. Our College Guidance Counselors, Ms. Myra Simpson and Mr. Adam Materasso, also spent about an hour speaking with us about the steps ahead and documents needed, including parent, peer and teacher recommendations. I also attended the Ranney’s April College Fair to meet directly with college representatives and learn more about the colleges I am interested in.

I am in the “home stretch,” as some might say, and I can see clearly how everything I have worked so hard for over the past three years greatly contributes to my ongoing college process. This summer, I plan to get a head start on my supplements and write my common application essay. By doing this, I will be well prepared for the stressful fall as early applications are due by November. I plan to continue my community service and work again this summer, just as I have done for the past three years. This spring is a truly exciting time and I am very pleased with the college process at Ranney thus far.
