Arthropod Hotel Opens in Community Garden
First grade students were introduced to arthropods in science class with Mr. Fong, learning about the special characteristics that make them unique. This led them to become experts specifically on bees, beetles, and butterflies.
As they were learning about arthropods, Mr. Fong asked them about the idea of creating a hotel for these critters. He worked with Ben Sacco and Bud Spangler from the Operations Team to collaborate with us to build the hotel.
On June 1, the science classes held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new community garden Arthropod Hotel. Each student read facts about arthropods and Dr. Danial cut the ribbon to celebrate the hotel opening. Then, the students presented Mr. Sacco and Mr. Spangler with cards they had made to thank them for taking the time to build the hotel.
The students were intrigued when they found out that Mr. Spangler had a special Ranney surprise hidden in the Arthropod Hotel and were excited to try and find it!
