Performing Arts Department Wins Seven Basie Awards

Ranney School won seven awards at the 19th annual BASIE AWARDS, honoring excellence and achievement in Monmouth County high school theatre. This year’s ceremony took place live at the historic Count Basie Center for the Arts, attracting a capacity crowd for what has become the biggest night of the year for area high school thespians.

“We are so proud of our performing arts department and especially our wonderful theatre and musical directors, Kathryn Maslak and Cindy Dwyer,” said Ranney Head of School Dr. John Griffith. “It is heartening to see the hard work and talent of our student performers recognized at the Basies.  The productions of She Kills Monsters and Mean Girls were sensational, and it is nice to see that validated by the judges.  We are so fortunate to have a balanced program that fosters the talents of students artistically, co-curricularly, and athletically."

“Once again, our historic theater was filled to capacity in celebration of the talent and dedication of our area’s high school theatre programs,” said Samantha Giustiniani, Vice President, Education and Outreach, Count Basie Center for the Arts. “Every year, we continue to be amazed at the brilliant and diverse programs and their work both on stages and behind the scenes. Watching schools, students, teachers and administrators cheer for each other embodies the unifying power of theater.”
