Early Childhood Education (Age 3 - Pre-Kindergarten)

Our Early Childhood program provides the foundation for the Ranney experience. It is here where students learn to think in order to create. The distinctive and intentional space is grounded in developmental theory with a direct connection to the investment Ranney makes into the professional development of our faculty. This supports the implementation of evidence-based instructional approaches that guide our students to reach their full potential.

Our Pre-Kindergarten classroom, for example, provides a core look into Ranney’s Design Thinking, a program aligned with the Reggio Emilia approach that relies on exploration and creation. The room becomes another teacher and is designed based on each class of students—starting with a blank canvas—and evolving as children construct new knowledge throughout the school year. For example, centers provide a calming and mindful space while also teaching children that the world around them—down to the classroom level—is in a constant state of growth and change, change that can be impacted by their own contributions. From traditional numbers, shapes and spaces, this innovative learning environment allows children to grow confidence and resiliency, and to take advantage of flexibility and guidance to ask questions, to problem-solve and to lead.

With the advantage of smaller class sizes and low student to teacher ratios, students can receive the kind of attention that is important when fostering good learning and social habits. They can continue to build on these habits in Ranney's Lower, Middle and Upper School.

Come see why Ranney School is known as one of the best preschools in Monmouth County. New Jersey residents in Tinton Falls, as well as throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties, trust us with the education of their children. Feel free to contact the school for a personal visit, and see what a difference Ranney School can make for you and your child.

Our Approach

Evidence-based instruction and intentional investment in faculty training guide Ranney School’s youngest learners to form foundational skills that prepare them for success in our Lower School. Our teachers are specialists in Early Childhood Education and our classrooms are distinctive, featuring intentional spaces grounded in Reggio Emilia, a developmental theory leveraging exploration and creation. In this model, the room becomes another teacher. The classroom starts in September with a blank canvas and evolves through the year as children take on responsibility and demonstrate new knowledge. As a result, each classroom becomes a unique reflection of a particular class of students. Class spaces are in a constant state of growth and change; change that can be impacted by students’ own contributions.

Early Childhood classes are kept small, with low student-teacher ratios so that students can receive nurturing, individualized attention. Students have the opportunity to visit the Searle Library and Media Center, science labs, art and music studios, world language classrooms, the community garden, and dining hall and to work with multiple teachers. Students also enjoy our athletic facilities, including an indoor heated pool and outdoor, age-appropriate designed play structures.

This innovative learning environment allows children to grow confidence and resiliency as they learn to ask questions, solve problems, and lead.
