Ranney School announces the creation of the Kiely Family Welcome Center, made possible by a generous $1 million gift from Ranney alumnus John M. Kiely (’86), his wife Mary Kiely and his mother and father Carolyn and Jack Kiely Jr. This transformative new facility will replace the former Margaret Mahon Building, honoring the legacy of one of the school’s most beloved leaders while establishing a space dedicated to community, connection, and Panther pride.
The new Kiely Family Welcome Center will serve as the first point of contact for prospective families, Ranney parents, alumni, and visitors, reinforcing Ranney’s commitment to fostering a warm and inclusive environment. The facility will include state-of-the-art meeting and conference spaces, offices for the Admissions and Advancement teams, and inviting gathering areas for parents, alumni, and the broader school community.
For John M. Kiely, Executive Chairman of Kiely Family of Companies and a devoted Ranney alumnus, this project holds deep personal significance. "Ranney School continues to have a profound impact on my life, and much of that is due to the leadership and guidance of Russell G. Ranney and Margaret Mahon. They believed in me, challenged me, and helped shape the person I am today. And over the last decade under current leadership, I have witnessed the same type of impact on my two daughters who are both Ranney School lifers. I also wish to thank my parents for realizing the value of a Ranney School education and affording me the opportunity to attend Ranney School. It is incredibly meaningful to honor Margaret Mahon’s memory by naming this new Welcome Center in a space where future generations will begin their own journeys at Ranney."
The Kiely Family has a long-standing connection to Ranney, with John and Mary’s daughters, Kaitlyn ’24 and Tarin ’27, continuing the family’s tradition of excellence at the school.
The Kiely Family is joined by other generous families who have made significant commitments to support the new Welcome Center, including Mario and Katie Reyes (Mario ’28, Lorenzo ’31, Fabiana ’38); Ed and Melissa Braniff (Liam ’32, Meghan ’38); Ramil and Maria Bhatnagar (Deven ’21, Krishan ’23, Karina ’28); and Jack and Janet Sanders (Donald ’32).
Ranney School’s Head of School, Dr. John Griffith, expressed his deep gratitude for the Kiely Family’s generosity, along with the many other generous families who have committed to this project. “The Kiely Family Welcome Center represents the very best of Ranney—our commitment to nurturing community, knowing and valuing our students, alumni and families, and celebrating the contributions of our stakeholders. These gifts are not only a tribute to Margaret Mahon’s legacy but also a testament to the power of philanthropy in shaping the future of Ranney School.”
