Ranney Students Meet for Discussion with JCP&L Diversity Group

On April 17, Ranney School Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Coordinator Ron Crocker brought the Student Diversity Dealership Council (SDLC) to Bell Works to meet with the Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) diversity group, Mosaic.

The two groups had an open discussion about what diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging looks like in high school versus the corporate world, allowing the students to see what others are doing to support DEIB and providing insight on how to advance the efforts.

Elaine Vincent, FirstEnergy/JCP&L Advisor, Community Involvement, said of the Ranney students, “I am so impressed with the students who had the courage and grace to speak up. I couldn’t believe their level of maturity and poise at that age. [They were] very articulate, thoughtful, caring, respectful and discerning. As I sat there in awe, I really learned a lot.”
 
“I believe I can speak for many when I say that the JCP&L and Ranney collaboration was very insightful, " said Priscilla Michel ’24. “I am surprised at how much Ranney and the corporate world have in common regarding diversity, and the two are very similar demographically. We had insightful discussions on the progress being made within schools and businesses, and how progress regarding diversity and acceptance within the workforce and the student body is increasing slowly but surely. It’s likely that in the near future, if we continue at the rate progress is being made, both the corporate world and the educational world will flourish with a diverse array of ideas, backgrounds, and cultures.” 

Prior to working at Ranney School as the DEIB Coordinator, Mr. Crocker served as External Affairs Consultant at JCP&L. He joined the company in 1989 and worked there for 32 years.
